Giving Textiles a New Life

A Blue Door Project

Something new is being stitched together at The Blue Door — and we’d love you to be part of it.

Stitch is a new volunteer-led project from The Blue Door, with a simple idea:

Take donated clothing and textiles that might otherwise have little value and turn them into something useful, beautiful and worth selling.

The products created through Stitch will be sold through The Blue Door, creating an additional income stream that helps us continue to give back to the Marlborough community.

We’re starting small

Stitch is a start-up, so we’re beginning with a clean, clear workroom and a few basic pieces of equipment.

We don’t have everything worked out — and that’s intentional.

As Stitch grows, our ideas, products and ways of working will grow with it. The people who join us will help shape what Stitch becomes.

Could you be part of Stitch

Stitch is starting from scratch in a lovely converted space at the back of The Blue Door building, separate from the main store.

At this stage, we particularly need people with good sewing skills, as we are not yet in a position to teach sewing.

There are, however, plenty of other ways to get involved, including embroidery, hand stitching, cutting, ironing, sorting, preparing materials and finishing products.

Stitch will be volunteer-led, with volunteers helping shape what the project becomes.

Get involved

We’d love to hear from people who can:

- Sew or embroider

- Alter or repair clothing

- Cut patterns or prepare fabrics

- Deconstruct old clothing and see what it could become

- Iron and finish products

- Help sort and prepare textiles

- Come up with ideas for products

- Share a particular skill

- Or simply have enthusiasm and want to have a go!

You can contribute as much or as little time as suits you. Some volunteers may work in the Stitch workroom, while others may take an agreed project home.

It’s volunteer-led, so everyone can bring their ideas and take the lead on projects they’re passionate about.

Equipment

We welcome donations of sewing machines and other textile equipment in good working order that could help us get Stitch underway. We’re particularly interested in good-quality equipment that is no longer being used but still has plenty of life left in it.

Want to find out more?

Whether you’d like to volunteer, donate equipment, share your skills or simply find out what Stitch is all about, we’d love to hear from you.
